Ember Mug 10 Oz Vs 14 Oz: Which Should You Get?

Interested in buying an Ember mug but unsure of what size? The best mug for you depends on how you want to use it. It would be best to consider the pros and cons of all the different Ember mug sizes and designs.

You should get the Ember mug of 10 oz if you enjoy smaller cups of coffee. If you want a larger cup, then the Ember mug 14 oz is better for you. The 10 oz will keep coffee hot for 90 minutes compared to 80 minutes for the 14 oz – otherwise they are basically identical other than their size and price.

Regardless of size, the Ember mug is an innovative smart mug that keeps your drink hot for 1-1.5 hours.

However, the mugs have some differences, including size, price, battery life, and features.

There is also an in-between third option – a 12 oz Ember travel mug, which is the typical size of a normal to large size cup of coffee. The travel mug has a different form factor, doesn't have a ceramic lining and is much more expensive. What Is The Difference Between The 10 oz and 14 oz Ember Mugs?

The regular Ember mug comes in two main sizes – 10 oz and 14 oz.

Since 2017 when the first Ember mug was released, a new version has been made called Ember mug 2. The 14 oz is only available in the 2nd version whereas the 10 oz is available in both 1st and 2nd versions. Read about the differences between the Ember Mug 1 and Ember Mug 2.

The essence of these mugs is also the same – they are used in the same way, can be temperature controlled, and even look the same. However, there are some essential differences.

Battery Duration

One of the leading features of the Ember mug is that it keeps your drink hot at your chosen temperature.

The 10 oz mug keeps your coffee or tea hot for about 1.5 hours, whereas the 14 oz keeps it hot for a little less time at about 80 minutes.

This is likely due to the fact it takes more energy to keep a larger drink hot and also the 14 oz has a slightly larger opening, allowing heat to escape more quickly in the form of steam.

These timings are only accurate if you're using your Ember mug off the charging coaster. If the mug is placed on the coaster after every sip, it will keep your drink hot for as long as you need. This is true for both the 14 oz as well as the 10 oz.

Keep in mind here which version of the Ember mug you’re looking at.

The older version, Ember mug 1, had lower battery life, keeping a drink hot for only an hour.

There is another mug called the Ember travel mug which is perfect for busy people on the go. This versions is created to keep your coffee hot for up to 3 hours. The size and form factor of this mug is also different – coming to 12 oz.

Materials

The 10 oz and 14 oz are made from the same materials. They are both made from stainless steel with a ceramic coating so no flavors will be imparted into your drink.

There is no real difference in the construction quality of these 2 mugs. Learn exactly what Ember Mugs are made of.

What Is The Price Difference Between The Ember Mug 10 Oz And 14 Oz?

The larger 14 oz Ember Mug is slightly more expensive than the 10 oz Mug which may lead people to buy the smaller mug.

Unless you really like drinking large beverages this saving alone will make the 10 oz the better buy for most people.

Below you can click and see the latest prices of these products but usually the 14 oz is approximately $30 more than the 10 oz mug.

Given you're already paying around $100 for the 10 oz mug many people won't want to spend the extra money for the 14 oz.

Besides the actual price of the Ember mug, it can become more expensive if you decide to buy a lid as well. Although this may sound unnecessary, it will actually improve your experience with an Ember mug.

The Ember mug in both small and large sizes doesn't come with a lid, making spilling easy when you walk around the house with a full cup of coffee. Using a silicone lid will prevent this and keep your coffee hotter for longer.

Using a lid is a great hack to improve the battery life as heat is not escaping the mug as fast as it would if entirely open. Of course, you don't have this problem with the Ember travel version, as it already comes with a lid.

Which Ember Mug Size Is Best?

There are three sizes in the Ember mug brand – 10 oz, 12 oz, and 14 oz. The original mug comes with 10 oz and 14 oz options, and the Ember travel mug is 12 oz.

If you enjoy a larger cup of coffee, then the Ember mug in the 14 oz size or the 12 oz travel mug is best for you.

The 12 oz option typically fits a “standard” or large cup of coffee.

However, if you like having smaller cups of coffee more often during the day, then the 10 oz size is best and will save you some money.

The best size entirely depends on how much of your drink you want to keep warm in one go. However, there are also differences in battery life between the three sizes, which you should consider.

Which Ember Mug Is Best?

The Ember mug best for you depends on your personal preferences and how you plan on using your mug. Each mug has its advantages and disadvantages.

The standard 10 oz Ember mug is best for you if you want to use it at home or in the office and this is the version I have.

This mug is the cheapest option out of all the different size mugs.

Its design includes a handle making it comfortable to use at home. You can leave the charging coaster in one spot, and you don’t have to worry about the mug running out of charge.

This specific mug is also great if about 1.5 hours of hot coffee is enough for you.

The larger size, 14 oz mug, is best for those who enjoy bigger cups of coffee or tea. The battery life is similar to the 10 oz, so the main differences would be price point and size.

On the other hand, the Ember travel mug is ideal if you need to have your drink hot for longer, lasting up to 3 hours. It's also ideal if you want to take your cup with you in the car – as it's quite difficult to take the 10 oz or 14 oz with you in the car.

The primary purpose of the travel mug is to use it on the go in its portable design. It also has the feature of changing the temperature without the app and doing it directly on the mug.

If you enjoy this feature for practical or privacy reasons, then the travel mug is best. Another reason you might enjoy the travel mug more is its leak-proof lid. The main disadvantage of the travel mug would be the high price.

Conclusion

The 10 oz Ember mug is best for you if you enjoy smaller cups of coffee. The larger size, 14 oz, is better for people who like to have more coffee at once. You should get the size that suits your unique needs.
